2022 Amazon KDP Strategy: Building a Successful Book Business

After selling my book publishing business and returning to the industry, I’ll share the exact strategies I’m using to rebuild my Amazon KDP publishing career in 2022.

This year, I’m focused on rebuilding my KDP account with some key strategic changes. My first priority is focusing on a single niche market. Instead of spreading my efforts across multiple genres, I’ll delve deep into one specific niche. I’ll continue publishing books within that niche until I can no longer find profitable keywords or topics. Focusing on one niche allows me to build a strong brand and become an expert in that area.

Secondly, I’m prioritizing book quality above all else. Instead of publishing many average-quality books, I’ll invest more in creating outstanding, high-quality books. I’ll use professional cover design services from 99designs and collaborate with Urban Writers or freelance writers on Upwork to ensure top-notch content. Although the initial investment is higher, in the long run, investing in quality will yield more sustainable profits. A high-quality book will last longer and generate revenue for years, while a low-quality book will quickly be forgotten due to negative reviews.

Next, I’ll build a reader community from day one. I’ll create an email list and start attracting subscribers even before my first book is released. Building a community early on makes it easier to get reviews and sales during the launch phase. One effective strategy for building an email list is to implement automation, which helps attract new subscribers daily without much time and effort. I’ve applied this strategy to my new pen name and have seen positive results, averaging 8-9 subscribers per day without any additional effort.

Finally, I’ll run Amazon Ads consistently. Running ads not only increases direct sales but also indirectly boosts organic search rankings. When books sell better through advertising, the BSR (Best Seller Rank) improves, leading to greater visibility in organic search results. Therefore, running ads is a long-term investment that increases sales and visibility for books.

In addition, I’ll build a support team from the beginning, including a virtual assistant and freelancers, to handle tasks within the publishing process. This will help me automate the process and focus on business development strategies.

Lastly, I want to emphasize: never underestimate the value of your time. Instead of trying to do everything yourself, consider outsourcing tasks that can be done at a low cost. Investing a small amount to save time and effort will allow you to focus on more important tasks, resulting in greater efficiency for your business.
